Industrial Production Basics - class held 2 times per week & is part of our “Salon” program or can be taken separately.
This course covers introduction to industrial straight needle & serger. Machine operation & troubleshooting. Tools of the trade, threads, needles, tension and various feet for production. Production skill building for accuracy & speed using real work samples, real work-room site tours included – when possible. Taught by Cali Roberta, Industrial Instructor and Production Manager.

Course consists of class lectures, lab work and homework. Includes Tool Kit & materials.
10 weeks with 2 – 3-hour sessions per week, Fee $800 or 2 payments of $410

Basic Sewing - Phase 1 8/10

Basic Sewing - Phase 1 - This course is for a beginner who has never sewn before or for someone who has not sewn for awhile and needs a refresher course. You will learn to operate a domestic sewing machine including threading, basic operation and safety & maintenance. You will also learn the tools of the trade and add the building block skills of sewing seams, hems, finishes, zippers and more while making some simple projects. Each week you will learn a new skill and you will have home practice work to complete. At the end of this course you can earn a certification thru testing. This course is also part of our Sewing Salon program - for employment, entrepreneurship and enrichment.

This course will be lead by Robert Lackie - Classroom Instructor for Domestic machine.

All materials and supplies are included with this course. You can use our machines & tools or bring your own to learn with.

This course will get you back to sewing and then you can continue to more courses for additional certificates or just for self enrichment.

Sewing Machine Basics – Domestic = Did you receive a sewing machine as a gift or are just getting started? Learn to use your new machine or refresh your skills. If you don't have a machine but, still want to learn - you can use one of ours for this class. You will learn how to thread your machine, wind a bobbin and more. Basic sewing operations including stitch width & length & pattern selection will be covered. You will make samples as you learn for future reference.
Bring your machine and all its accessories & tools. This does not cover embroidery machines.
Workbook included.

GO Green Sewing - Unpaper Towels - AS part of The Sewing Labs ongoing commitment to offer "green" options and projects that follow the mindset of honoring our resources, Un-paper Towels is offered as an alternate to reuse. Join, Alli Lindenmann, in this class as you make a set of 8 unpaper towels. Bring your own fun kitchen print or use our stash. The terry cloth and snaps are included in your fee. This is a serger friendly class. Your instructor will teach you the basic operation so now worries. Sergers are provided.

This is a 1 session course covering basic operator & safety skills for the Industrial Straight Needle or Serger machines. It covers proper threading and adjusting for different fabrics, proper tension and how to improve your stitch performance. Changing needles and feet and essential machines maintenance. It is taught by Cali Roberta - Industrial Instructor /Production Manager

This course is REQUIRED prior to rental of an industrial machine @ The Sewing Labs. Class is offered each month, so sign up before you want to rent machines. Space is limited.

We want you to volunteer at The Sewing Labs!
This is a one session orientation training which will give you an overview of the mission of The Sewing Labs and how you can serve as a volunteer.
Orientation will cover;the mission of TSL, the opportunities for volunteers from the classroom to community to boardroom, rules of operation and safety precautions for everyone in the program and more. We want you to do what you heart & hands love.
Even if you are just interested in finding out more before deciding to volunteer this is a great opportunity to explore what The Sewing Labs is all about.
All of our volunteers are expected to go thru an orientation within the first 90 days of service Pre-registration is requested.

Online format - Do you want to start a business in sewing?
Introducing - Dr. Patricia Eisele as our Smart Money coordinator. Dr. Eisele holds a bachelors degree in Journalism and Public Relations, an MBA with a Marketing emphasis, and a PhD in Family Business Entrepreneurship. She has started two businesses and has both U.S. and International experience. Trish is a former Small Business Development Center consultant and previously managed international degree programs for Ottawa University at 13 sites in Singapore, Malaysia and Hong Kong.

She will be your guide instructor for the modules of the Smart Money program hosted thru The Sewing Labs.
During the 13 months program you will have the opportunity to learn different aspects of running your own sewing business taught by local business professional. In addition, local creative business professionals will share their stories of the start up and running of their businesses.

Classes will be held by Zoom on the 2nd & 4th Tuesday, from 6-7:30 pm.
You will have homework for the weeks in between. You can attend the modules monthly or sign up for the entire 13 months. (sign up for year through our website. A workbook will be provided by email.

Basic Sewing - Phase 1 - This course is for a beginner who has never sewn before or for someone who has not sewn for awhile and needs a refresher course. You will learn to operate a domestic sewing machine including threading, basic operation and safety & maintenance. You will also learn the tools of the trade and add the building block skills of sewing seams, hems, finishes, zippers and more while making some simple projects. Each week you will learn a new skill and you will have home practice work to complete. At the end of this course you can earn a certification thru testing. This course is also part of our Sewing Salon program - for employment, entrepreneurship and enrichment.

This course will be lead by Robert Lackie - Classroom Instructor for Domestic machine.

All materials and supplies are included with this course. You can use our machines & tools or bring your own to learn with.

This course will get you back to sewing and then you can continue to more courses for additional certificates or just for self enrichment.

The selection covers all kinds of fabrics; fashion fabrics, home decor fabrics, cotton & quilting fabrics. In addition there will be an assortment of notions, tools, patterns and sewing machines. The selection will also include vintage & newer items.
Meet other makers and learn about The Sewing Labs mission to use sewing to create jobs and to build community.

Introducing - Dr. Patricia Eisele as our Smart Money coordinator. Dr. Eisele holds a bachelors degree in Journalism and Public Relations, an MBA with a Marketing emphasis, and a PhD in Family Business Entrepreneurship. She has started two businesses and has both U.S. and International experience. Trish is a former Small Business Development Center consultant and previously managed international degree programs for Ottawa University at 13 sites in Singapore, Malaysia and Hong Kong.

She will be your guide instructor for the modules of the Smart Money program hosted thru The Sewing Labs.
During the 13 months program you will have the opportunity to learn different aspects of running your own sewing business taught by local business professional. In addition, local creative business professionals will share their stories of the start up and running of their businesses.

Classes will be held by Zoom on the 2nd & 4th Tuesday, from 6-7:30 pm.
You will have homework for the weeks in between. You can attend the modules monthly or sign up for the entire 13 months. (sign up for year through our website. A workbook will be provided by email.

Seams and Stories
Jazzy K Productions LLC and The Sewing Labs will implement an engaging, empowering and educational program with the intent to gain new audience, share art and history knowledge. In honor of Women’s Month in March guest will obtain information about an Afro-American female jazz vocalist and create an art wall-hanging. The partnership will inspire guests with the ability to connect and communicate one seam and one story at a time. Karen E Lewis will also have her artworks available to view and purchase.

This program combines storytelling & personal art together. Ending with the audience creating their own art wall-hanging documenting their own story.
