Sewing Salon Training Program

Sewing Salon Training Program - consisting of up to 30 weeks of training by professional individuals.

All participants are required to go thru an entrance interview so that we can give you a complete understanding of the program.

Our sewing instructors have "real life" & hands on knowledge and skills with years of first person manufacturing and production sewing. Lead Industrial & Domestic Instructor is Cali Roberta Cox.

Our entrepreneurial business program is based on the FDIC Smart Money for Small Business and is lead by a collection of professionals and creative business owners to teach real life applications.

Training Includes:

Domestic Training - 15 weeks of Sewing Basics covering the Fundamental skills of sewing

Industrial Training - 15 weeks of Industrial sewing covering operation of Straight Needle and Serger, including "Live" production products

Site Visit - up to 4 site visits to local qualified employers actively seeking to hire sewist.

Entrepreneurial Education - 13 Monthly virtual workshops + homework enhanced by active entrepreneurs and supported with modules and reference booklets from FDIC Smart Money for Small Business.

Students will receive & keep for their own;

Student Tool Kit - including basic tools; dressmaker shears, snips, tape measure, seam ripper, hem gauge, pins, hand needles & needle threader & tailors chalk.

Materials used during training

FDIC Notebooks - each module distributed with monthly sessions.

FDIC Money Smart for Small Business program is the core of our entrepreneurial training featuring teachers from KC business professionals as well as a collection of makers who are making a living with their creative skills. Each student is paired with a mentor to facilitate success to start their business.

Become an entrepreneur through The Sewing Labs. Being an entrepreneur means bearing most of the risks and enjoying most of the rewards. Entrepreneurs are the innovators, the source of new ideas, goods, services and business or procedures .

Enrichment

Coming together to learn to sew as a vocation allows persons to support each other collectively as they follow their journey. TSL builds community where each individual is celebrated for their achievements and individual differences. Our program expands the network of these sewists by introducing them to other persons using sewing to achieve financial independence. It introduces them to teachers and maker-mentors who are already at successful in this journey. And, it introduces them to a network of professional business people with whom they can now reach out for assistance as this new adventure begins.

Module Overview

- Discern between the myths and realities of small business ownership

- Start a self-assessment to determine readiness to become a small business owner - Gain insight about their readiness to start a business

Planning for a Healthy Business

- Discover a 4-Step Business Planning process, via a case study, that will help them create a long-term healthy business

Banking Services

Entrepreneurs will

- Gain a solid understanding of the banking products and services available to small business owners

- Understand the importance of building effective long-term relationships with a banker or lender

- Recognize the role of a personal credit score in the lending process

Organizational Types (April 2021) Entrepreneurs will

- Know that the legal structure of a business determines how a company operates and is taxed

- Distinguish the general characteristics, advantages and disadvantages of organizational types:

• Sole proprietorship
