The Sewing Labs has an immediate opportunity to help our community and we need your support in order to make this a reality.
We have taken on a leadership role creating and managing a KC pipeline that will create and distribute PPE (personal protective equipment) for many levels of exposure. We are joining with two other dynamic organizations, KC Helps and The Million Masks Challenge KC, to accept donations of supplies and financial support along with in-kind services to fuel this pipeline.
Here is What we are doing!
Mobilized our community of sewists to sew non-N95 masks for health care professionals (nursing homes, hospices) in greater Kansas City area.
Supplied sewists with kits that contain enough fabric, materials and a pattern with instructions to create 12 masks. These materials come from many sources; donation from Missouri Star Quilt Company, from our existing fabric bank and purchases ongoing from funds from donations. These kits are available FREE because of your generous support.
Kits are distributed on Tuesday and Friday via curbside pick-up from 10 am -2 pm @ 1305 E 27th Street, KCMO 64108.
Sewn masks received back are to be disinfected and distributed to various health care facilities in and around Kansas City. All Tier 2 cloth masks are distributed FREE of charge because of your generous support.
“We started hearing from a wide variety of front-line professionals almost immediately, once word got out what we were doing,” said Eileen Bobowski, Executive Director of The Sewing Labs. “We have heard from hospitals, doctor’s offices, nursing homes, hospices, veterinarians, even prisons who are wanting these masks our community is sewing.”
We are as always incredibly grateful for your support and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Please make your donations to The Mask Project below and thank you!
