TSL Partnerships

GREAT Program Partnership

The Sewing Labs is excited to partner with the G.R.E.A.T. Program.  The students have been so helpful with assembling face mask kits and TSL is so grateful for the time they have contributed to this wonderful community outreach project!  To date, G.R.E.A.T. has helped us assemble over 3,000 mask kits!

What is the G.R.E.A.T. Program?

The G.R.E.A.T. Program (Gaining Real-life Experience And Training) is a transition program for students aged 18-21 who have intellectual/developmental disabilities.  Along with instruction from teachers, they work on employment skills on-site and participate in real work experience at local businesses.  On-site, their students also learn independent living skills that include meal planning, grocery shopping, cooking, cleaning, basic budgeting and leisure skills.

A message from G.R.E.A.T. regarding their partnership with The Sewing Labs:

"This past year, Covid 19 has greatly impeded our ability to get that hands-on work experience in the community.  Connecting with The Sewing Labs has provided us with work we can do on-site that benefits the community.  Rather than just working on practice work boxes, we have been able to put these face mask kits together and see that the work we do benefits our community.  This has instilled our students with a sense of community and pride in their ability to help others.  Not only do the students learn to stay on-task and work continuously, the work helps them understand they are a part of their community and are able to give back to others."
